Integrative Lymphatic Massage

What is Integrative Lymphatic Drainage?

This treatment involves the manual movement of lymph fluid through the body. Supporting the maintenance of the body's fluid balance and immune system. the lymphatic system does not have its own pump, instead relying on muscle contraction (physical activity and movement), respiratory movements (breathing), pulsations (arteries, blood transportation), smooth muscle (digestive, urinary, respiratory, circulatory), lymphatic drainage massage and compression (garments).

This treatment is gentle to receive but big on impact. Holistically addressing the body through multiple systems. We use minimal oil (some friction helps lymph movement) and specific direction of strokes to support drainage within the lymphatic system.
Who would lymphatic work benefit?
  • Oedema: Reducing swelling caused by injury, surgery, or medical conditions like venous insufficiency.
  • Lymphoedema: ILD is a primary treatment for lymphoedema, a condition where excess fluid accumulates in tissues, typically in arms or legs due to lymph node removal, injury, or congenital malformation.
  • Pre/Post-surgery swelling: After surgeries, especially those involving lymph node removal. (e.g. mastectomy, lymph node dissection), lymphatic drainage massage can help reduce swelling and promote healing. This is also supportive after abdominal surgery e.g. organ removal or C-Section to reduce fluid and support healing.
  • Chronic Inflammatory Conditions: Assists in management of chronic inflammation e.g. Arthritis, sinusitis, tendonitis, rhinitis, etc.
  • Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, long covid and lethargy: Some individuals with these conditions experience relief from symptoms through lymphatic drainage massage.
  • Post-cancer treatment: Lymphatic drainage massage is often used to alleviate side effects from cancer treatments post-cancer. Including radiation therapy and chemotherapy, both of which can cause lymphoedema and oedema. If you are currently being treated for active cancer we can refer you for oncology specific massage therapy.
  • Immune system support: Improving lymphatic circulation can enhance the functioning of the immune system, meaning lymphatic drainage massage is supportive for auto-immune diseases and general health.
  • Circulatory issues: Lymphatic drainage massage can improve blood flow and circulation and may benefit individuals with circulatory problems.
  • Constipation and IBS: Supportive through moving inflammation and aiding bowel movements, this treatment involves direct work to the abdomen and large intestine massage.
  • Pregnancy: Assisting to move excess liquid which may occur throughout pregnancy.
  • The nervous system and stress, anxiety and depression: This treatment is designed to promote relaxation, and work with the parasympathetic system (rest and digest).
